Five incredibly futuristic concept cars of the 80s

If you bring in your mind cars of the 80s, you will remember squared shapes and straight lines. This car design fashion broke by some impressive concept cars that impressed with their curved shapes and showed the road to modern car design for the 90's and forth. Looking at these concept cars, you will wonder if really have passed about 30 years among their creation!

1. Buick Wildcat (1985)

It is hard to believe that this concept car was first showed in the international motor show in Las Vegas in 1985. Buick constructed two prototypes, one stationary and the other with full mechanical parts. The prototype had not any doors and the entrance to the car achieved when the roof moved forward. With the EV1 Buick managed to subvert the image of the conservative brand.

2. Chevrolet Indy (1986)

After the above EV1, GM created the depicted Chevrolet Indy. The concept car was showed in 1986 at the motor show of Nitroit and was fully functional. The car served as a mobile laboratory where it tested new technologies such as active suspension which appeared in later Corvette models.

3. Citroen Activa (1988)

Citroën Activa was a prototype built for testing and demonstration of technologies that were intended for later use in production cars. Presented at Paris Auto Show in 1988. As is evident from the photographs above, Activa was equipted with 4 wheel steering and siucide doors, which was not common in the cars of the era. The car had also active suspension and plenty of other technologies.

4. Saab EV1 (1985)

The EV1 was based on the floor of Saab 900. The design however was much influenced by fighter aircrafts of the company. The main purpose was the application of the mechanical parts of the company to a sportscar.

5. Jiotto Caspita (1988)

The Caspita created in 1988 on behalf of Jiotto a company named Dome. It was intended to bring Formula 1 technology in a road car. The engine was in the center and could move the car a top speed reached 320 km / hour. The project unfortunately did not drive into production car.
